Swissmetro operates completely underground

Sustainable technologies are a key to the future. Swissmetro is a highly advanced project for the growing mobility sector. Due to the use of new technologies, once built it causes no indirect costs and will be characterised by long term profitability. The advantages are obvious:

• no noise production

• no pollution from exhaust gases

• no deterioration of the landscape

• significantly lower energy consumption than conventional transportation systems

The fast Swissmetro connections create additional capacity exactly where they are most needed, while also improving the attractiveness of public transport as a whole. On longer routes such as for example Lyon-Geneva-Zurich-Munich, thanks to the high cruise speed of 500 km/h, Swissmetro is even an alternative to the ecologically questionable short-range flights.

With its characteristics Swissmetro imposes itself as an alternative mode of transportation. Nevertheless, the idea is kept in a box because our horizon of thinking does not extend beyond the next economic upswing. The sooner one begins to seek a solution to the traffic and environmental problems of the next 20 to 30 years, the better and cheaper the solution will be.
