Swissmetro is safer than existing transportation systems. The system is unaffected by weather conditions. External influences and transportation obstacles are virtually excluded.

The Swissmetro can not derail because it runs on a fixed guideway system. A frontal collision between 2 trains in the Swissmetro tunnel is also impossible, since the vehicles move in two tubes separated by direction.

Like in an aircraft, passengers in the Swissmetro vehicle are in a pressurized cabin. If necessary, oxygen masks are used to cover a drop in pressure, until the air pressure in the tunnel is restored after a short time.

Even earthquakes have almost no effect on the Swissmetro. On the one hand they are very rare in Switzerland, and on the other hand they have almost no impact below the surface. The seismic waves simply run through obstacles underground.
